Can Google Search Console Actually Track Voice Searches?

Therefore, a query such as "Can kidney stones go away without surgery?" cannot automatically be classified as a voice query simply because it sounds conversational. The patient may have typed it on a desktop keyboard. The intent behind the words matters far more than the input method.
This approach also future-proofs your strategy. As AI Mode, AI Overviews, and voice assistants continue to evolve, the natural-language patterns you identify today will remain relevant regardless of what Google calls the underlying technology.
How to Find Conversational Queries in Google Search Console
Start by opening: Google Search Console → Performance → Search Results → Queries. Select a meaningful date range. For established healthcare websites, three to six months usually provides enough data to identify patterns while reducing short-term fluctuations.
Enable Clicks, Impressions, CTR, and Average Position. Now study the Queries table carefully. Do not look only at the highest-click keywords. Apply these filters inside Performance → Search Results → New → Query → Custom (regex). Treat the results as a discovery tool rather than a precise voice-search detector. Turn Search Console Queries Into Patient Intent Categories

Creating five separate thin articles for five separate queries would rarely be the right approach. Instead, identify the central patient intent and build one comprehensive, well-structured page:

It also improves AEO because individual sections contain direct responses to common questions. And it can support GEO because the page gives generative systems clearly organised, contextual information that can be retrieved when answering broader questions about knee health.

Google's current guidance for generative AI experiences states that established SEO best practices continue to be relevant — because AI features such as AI Overviews and AI Mode rely on Google's core Search and quality systems. GEO is an industry term for improving visibility in AI-generated search experiences. From Google's perspective, there is no special "GEO button" or hidden meta tag. Instead, healthcare publishers should clearly identify who created or medically reviewed the content, explain medical concepts in understandable language, cite trustworthy sources where necessary, and provide specific original value rather than rewording information already available everywhere. AI systems exploring a topic through query fan-out reward topical completeness over single-phrase targeting.

Note that for health content, accuracy is more important than making every answer sound definitive. Where the medically correct response depends on individual circumstances, the content should reflect that uncertainty honestly rather than overpromising clarity for the sake of appearing more AI-extractable.
What About FAQ Schema and Voice Search Schema?
Schema can help search engines understand structured information, but marketers should avoid presenting schema as a guaranteed ranking method. Google has limited the regular display of FAQ rich results primarily to well-known, authoritative government and health websites. Use FAQPage structured data only when the page genuinely qualifies.
Similarly, Speakable structured data should not be treated as a universal voice-search optimization technique for hospital blogs. Google's current documentation describes Speakable as a beta feature primarily connected with topical news content and Google Assistant experiences in specific markets. The stronger strategy is to make the actual content naturally readable and answer-focused.
Healthcare Trust Signals Are Essential
Medical content belongs to a category where misinformation can cause real harm. A hospital article should therefore make its expertise visible at the page level — not only to satisfy Google's quality systems, but because patients deserve to know who is responsible for the information they are acting on.
Name the content team and the reviewing clinician for each article. "Written by Healthcare Content Team" is a starting point; named authorship is stronger.
"Medically Reviewed by Dr. [Name], Consultant Cardiologist" with qualification, speciality, and hospital affiliation builds verified expertise signals.
Include a "Last Medically Reviewed" date. This signals that the content is actively maintained and reduces the risk of outdated medical information reaching patients.
Claims requiring medical evidence should link to reliable sources: institutional guidelines, peer-reviewed research, or recognised medical associations.
Content should clearly indicate when symptoms require urgent medical attention, distinguishing educational content from individual medical advice.
Hospital name, registration, accreditation, and physical address help Google's systems verify the publisher's real-world existence and accountability.
These elements are consistent with Google's guidance to evaluate content based on Who created it, How it was created, and Why it exists — the core of its EEAT (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness) framework, which remains central to all 2026 quality evaluation systems.
Find Content Gaps Using Impressions and CTR
High impressions combined with a low click-through rate are one of the strongest signals in Google Search Console that a content opportunity exists. This pattern tells you that Google already considers your page relevant enough to show — but patients are not choosing to click, either because the title does not match their intent, or because the meta description does not communicate that the page answers their question.

First check whether the current page actually answers the question — and if so, whether the answer is easy to find. If the response to the query is buried halfway down a generic services page, creating a clearer dedicated section (or a focused article) may improve both ranking and CTR simultaneously.
Continue tracking impressions, clicks, and CTR after updating the content. Do not judge success only through rankings. Google itself recommends paying attention to trends in clicks and impressions over time, as these metrics reflect actual patient behaviour rather than algorithmic position alone.
Prioritisation Framework for Content Updates
When reviewing a large query dataset, prioritise content updates in this order for maximum efficiency:
High Impressions, Low CTR
Update title, meta description, and add a direct answer near the top of the page. This is the fastest win.
Positions 5–15, High Impressions
Strengthen the page with more complete answers, supporting evidence, and better internal linking. Modest improvements here drive meaningful click volume.
No Ranking Page, Clear Intent
Create new content. If GSC shows impressions for a query but no page ranks beyond position 40, build a dedicated answer page using the question → answer → detail format.

Google Search Console does not need to show you a "voice search" filter to be useful.
